A Sister Ago by Caitlin Buhr is a beautiful, heart-touching book that deals with the sensitive towspics of drug addiction, what it means to lose a loved one, and the bond between siblings.

Below is the synopsis and my thoughts on ‘A Sister Ago’.

Spoiler-Free Plot of A Sister Ago

Cristine and Rachel have always been the opposites of each other. The former is a kind-hearted and responsible therapist. The latter: stubborn and irresponsible. Rachel also has a problem with drug addiction.

Living with their parents, everything seems normal, until one day Cristine gets a call from her dad that shakes her whole world: Her sister is gone.

Heartbroken and grieving, Cristine will join her circle of friends to find out the reason for Rachel’s demise. And while drugs seem to be the obvious cause, the truth might not be so simple.

What is the mystery of Rachel’s death? Read the book to find out!

My Take On ‘A Sister Ago’

“Cristine Honey. Your sister’s gone.

Dealing with themes of drug addiction and what it is like to lose a loved one, I found the book very touching. The mystery of Rachel’s death kept me glued to the book to find out more.

The narrative is strong and keeps you hooked. The plot is thought-provoking. The pacing was also perfect, and the dialogue jumped off the page due to its ingenuity.

I would also like to mention here that A sister Ago is a very heart-rending book, it can easily make you shed some tears over Rachel’s death and Cristine’s bond with her. This book made me feel sad, and many books hardly move me.

The characters were all well done. I loved Cristine’s friends, Keiji and Carmen. The author’s writing style is simple and beautiful, it keeps up easily with your imagination.

A sister Ago masterfully talks about many critical issues faced by society. The consequences of drug addiction and what causes a person to indulge in an obviously self-harming habit.

Highly recommended for fans of “My Sister’s Keeper“, this book will tear you apart and slowly heal you. Also recommended for readers who like books about teenage drug addiction and sibling bonding.
