Alister: The Archives of Edgar Brave, written by Adam W. Schmitz is a coming-of-age fantasy book and is the first part of the series. It was published on November 1, 2022.

The book tells the story of two brothers, Edgar Brave, and Simon Brave. Both brothers live in a foster home named Friars’ foster home. Although Edgar is two years younger than Simon, he is the responsible one.

The owners of Friars’ foster home are Susan and Ben. They are both friendly to the Brave brothers and the brothers are also fond of the owners.

One day, Ben told Edgar about their possible longer stay in the foster home as Ben heard something about their mother. Edgar was upset and told Simon. Simon and Edgar then went to a place without telling anyone late at night to meet Elena and Jude, friends of Simon. They also see a stranger in his fifties. Everyone wanted to go away from that stranger except Elena who went toward him out of curiosity.

On the way back home, Simon fell and rolled from a hill. Edgar, Jude, and Elena saw a portal that was slowly diminishing. They also saw the strange man going into that portal. Slowly, one by one, all three of them went into the portal and then the portal was gone.

How strange and horrifying this entire experience was. Several moments ago, he was at home. A single moment ago, he was spiraling across the universe. Now, he was trying to explain a light at the bottom of an alien ocean. If there were words to explain it, he didn’t know them. He wondered why anything that would seem unordinary in a world where he couldn’t define what ordinary was.

Where did all of them land through the portal and who was the strange man? Where did Simon go and will Edgar ever be able to find his brother? Read the book to find out more!

My Take On Alister: The Archives Of Edgar Brave

If you are an avid fan of Harry Potter, The Game of Thrones, The Wheel of Time, and A Wrinkle in Time, you should definitely read this series. The book is written with an imaginary atmosphere that grows on you and an environment you can visualize in your mind easily. The writing is descriptive and easy-to-understand, and extraordinary.

Like his name, Edgar had a brave personality and he was willing to go to extremes to save his brother. The writer did an exceptional job of portraying a healthy, lovable, and caring sibling relationship.

The book was filled with several adventures, mysteries, and suspense that all lead to a big plot. The last page of the book leaves you thrilled and mesmerized. The world-building in this book is captivating, unique, and splendid. The way the fantastical places spin and remain in your mind is priceless. The enchanting world is magical in its own way.

The book also teaches lessons of determination, courage, and never letting go.

It is through the tribulations of life that we grow, Edgar. There is no strong character that a man can build from having only treasure and nothing else. When you have these hard times, remember that. You say ‘the only way out is through’ and you keep going.

The poems and proses written in the book were honestly a cherry on the top. I also liked how the writer used rain, and lightning in the scene when both the brothers were separating. I also loved the love between the brothers. Jude and Elena were also some characters that added a little more depth to the story.

Overall, if you love reading fantasies, you must read it as it is completely worth your time and attention.

About the Author of Alister, The Archives of Edgar Brave

Adam W Schmitz lives in San Marcos, California with his wife and kids. He has three daughters with one child on the way, at the time of this writing. They are waiting to be surprised on whether the baby is a boy or a girl, but at this point, a fourth girl is just as shocking as a first boy.

Aside from writing, Adam spends his spare time with his family, and enjoys playing music. He has played drum set since he was a young teen, and recently revived an interest in piano during the COVID lockdowns. Here’s hoping it sticks.
