Sarah J. Maas’s Seven-Book Bloomsbury Deal: The 2023 Announcement

January 2, 2024 — Bloomsbury’s March 15, 2023 trading update announced four additional books by Sarah J. Maas, alongside three books already under contract. That meant seven contracted titles, not seven books scheduled for publication in 2024.

Sarah J. Maas, renowned for her immersive and intricately plotted fantasy worlds, has gained a dedicated following with her series such as “Throne of Glass” and “A Court of Thorns and Roses.” Her ability to weave compelling narratives with complex characters has placed her at the forefront of the fantasy genre.

Among the releases anticipated at the time was “House of Flame and Shadow,” the third novel in the Crescent City series, released on January 30, 2024. This series, known for its human-fae hybrid protagonist Bryce Quinlan, has already seen considerable success with its previous installments, “House of Earth and Blood” and “House of Sky and Breath.”

The 2023 announcement did not provide a publication date or title for every contracted book. A publishing agreement sets out future work; it should not be read as a one-year release schedule.

The announcement from Bloomsbury came at a time when fantasy literature was enjoying immense popularity. The genre had seen a resurgence in recent years, thanks in part to successful book-to-screen adaptations and a growing appetite for escapism and adventure among readers.

Correction — October 8, 2026: The original article and metadata implied that all seven titles would arrive in 2024. We have corrected that framing while keeping the original publication date and URL.
