Mortal Vengeance by “Alejandro Torres” is a psychological coming-of-age tragedy held with the intensity of a confession and the inevitability of a curse.

This book is the perfect blend of mystery, thrill, and dark academia.

Spoiler-Free Plot

Injustice always demands something worthy. The story starts with a tight-knit group of friends led by Alex, who have been pushed to their limits by the abusive and harsh Professor Lourdes. She doesn’t teach but humiliates them, making them feel less and trapped in the loop of injustice and degradation.

What begins as a desperate attempt at justice quickly spirals into something darker. Instead of relief, they’re haunted by guilt. Instead of freedom, they’re trapped by fear. Their plan doesn’t just target their teacher; it turns on them, testing their loyalty, morality, and sanity.

Who knew that a simple planned revenge would cost them so much?

As their plan unravels, so do their friendships. Because revenge never fixes the hurt, it twists things into more complex, never-ending guilt and shame that consume them till the end.

However, the story shifts when the Grim Cojuelo appears in the story with a slow and dread feeling, a hooded, faceless figure that haunts the friends. Its arrival changes everything.

Is it a supernatural force drawn to their sin? A human killer hiding behind a myth? Or a terrifying manifestation of their own collective guilt?

Read the book to find out if they survive the monster they created or not.

My Take on Mortal Vengeance

Mortal Vengeance is one of those books that not only tells the story, but it also makes you feel it in your bones. After a very long time i get to read a story that really hooked me from start to end. The book wasn’t a light read, but it was a heavy, emotional, and complex book.

What struck me the most was how human each character feels. Alex, not the manipulator, but a hurt kid who’s too smart for his own good. Mario made my heart ache with his quiet guilt. Even Professor Lourdes wasn’t the villain but a product of a system that empowers cruelty, and that was scary.

The real genius of the book, for me, was Grim Cojuelo. I kept guessing and suspected every single character till the end, that’s what makes it work.

My favourite character throughout the book is Alex; he is a character you don’t just read about; you feel for him. He’s not the perfect hero, and he’s not a clear-cut villain. He’s stuck somewhere in the middle, just trying to be heard in a world that keeps shutting him down.

What made Alex feel so real was that he was full of contradictions. He’s smart and plans things carefully, but he’s also ruled by his emotions. He loves his friends and would do anything to protect them, yet he’s the one who leads them into danger.

Throughout the story, he isn’t just the angry kid, but he’s hurt, misunderstood, and desperate to matter. And he made me think that sometimes the people who feel the deepest are the ones who break the hardest.

The writing style of Alejandro is deeply psychological, engaging, and friendly. He not only shows what characters do but also pulls you into why they do it. The character development in the story was messier; they became more realer and the fractured version of themselves.

The writer used the pictures that add an extra layer and illustrations that deepen the atmosphere and bring key moments to life.

Mortal Vengeance is a tense, haunting walk through the hallways of a Dominican high school—where friendship, guilt, and revenge collide in a psychological struggle for power and redemption.

About The Author Of Mortal Vengeance

He holds a Bachelor’s in Advertising Communications from UNIBE and a Master of Science in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from NYU.
