“Nerdection Excellent Read”

Eve only knows what Adam has told her. That God has created her for him, as a salvation for Adam. Eve believes him, but as she wonders, she becomes more and more curious. What’s the meaning of life? A mortal, destined to die? Are there any answers to her questions?

She doesn’t know, but she’s determined to find out.

Spoiler-Free Plot

Adam lives in paradise. He spends his days breathing the air, eating fruit from the trees, and gazing upon fascinating things he doesn’t understand. He knows only God, who communicated with him once to tell him he was the first man and to forbid him from eating fruit from one specific tree. Adam doesn’t ask for anything else; he is pleased enough.

But as time passes, he realizes he is alone. He craves someone, anyone, to share his discoveries with. His joy in small things is temporary.

God, upon seeing this, informs the angels of his plan to create a woman. He calls her Adam’s “demise,” and his “choice.” The angel Gabriel doesn’t disagree but asks why God is playing this game. What is the need for mankind? God explains that humanity is created to tend the land, to love, and to revel in the company of one another and in nature.

Adam is told he will have a mate, one who will provide comfort and be his sanctuary. When Eve is created, Adam feels a profound longing for her. They are one flesh. Adam teaches her many things, but Eve possesses a deeper curiosity.

Their peaceful life is upended by the arrival of Lucifer, the ruler of Hell, punished by God. Seeing them as easy victims, he decides to steer them toward evil- specifically, toward the one thing God forbade; the forbidden fruit. Eve demands to know why they cannot eat it, but Adam turns her down, warning that they will die. Eve doesn’t understand death.

Frustrated by the lack of answers, she decides to eat the fruit. She tells Adam, who is furious. Yet, he knows that if Eve dies, he will be alone again. Unable to live without her, he eats it as well. As punishment, God sends them to New Earth.

Adam and Eve survive. Though they are constantly in pain, with little food or water, they live. They have children, but Eve continues to seek answers.

Time passes, and Adam discovers a community of mankind far away in a town, and even finds love there. Eve, on the other hand, is left confused. Was she not the first woman? Are there other gods? Does their God still watch them from above? She embarks on a solitary journey to find the truth.

My Take on EVE: A Novel

This novel is a perfect blend of fiction and history.

The writing style is unique and deeply introspective. The reader is consistently aware of the characters’ thoughts, making their journeys easy to follow and empathize with. The plot is well-served by these rich inner struggles, which make the story deeply engaging.

Eve’s character is beautifully written. Her philosophical wisdom and persistent questions feel realistic and profound. They made me think about how we often overlook life’s simplest questions, whose answers are most complicated.

We all have moments where we question our reality and ponder the paths not taken. Eve, upon reflection, realizes she has no regrets. If given the choice again, she would still eat the forbidden fruit. For her, the price was worth the reward, discovering the world and all the secrets the earth holds.

This book was A powerful and thought-provoking retelling of Eve’s story—emotional, bold, and unforgettable.

Overall, Eve was a fantastic read.

Age rating

This book is recommended for readers 18 and above, as it contains some intimate scenes between characters.
