My take on The Rebirth: A Dark Noir Thriller

The author of this work, V.P. Evans, describes himself as a normal, even boring guy, who likes to use his imagination to go to faraway places where unthinkable things can happen. This is an appropriate way to introduce us to The Rebirth: A Dark Noir Thriller, a story that seeks to mix different genres in a single work that manages to capture the reader by its ability to awaken interest in what is coming and what has happened.

The story initially takes place in Chicago, Illinois, on a Thursday night, March 16, 2023, although it will keep us on a journey between that time and a decade ago, where important events for the story and the development of the main characters occurred. That night, Dermot Walsh was shot and was beginning to live his last moments. Walsh was not a good person. He had committed many crimes and was receiving what he seemed to deserve. Walsh wrote to Roneros because he saved his life once.

Walsh, in those final moments, sent a message to Jason Roneros telling him what led up to his shooting. Roneros has been living a life of hiding and isolation for the past ten years, because he was being pursued by an organization he worked for. He had a hard drive containing a lot of information that could be dangerous to the organization, which was known as the Imperatores. The organization’s reach was worldwide and it had a terrible track record that Roneros wanted to expose at all costs, even if it meant losing his life.

Enter the other main character, Mark Gilliam, who already knows Jason from his time in the Imperatores and whom Gilliam wants to find before the organization does because he knows that together they can reveal all the darkness behind the Imperatores. Gilliam’s reasons date back a decade, when his son and father were killed by the criminal organization. This leads Gilliam to confront some ghosts from his past that have haunted him for the past ten years. In the end, the union of Roneros and Gilliam begins a dark adventure that brings with it the discovery of many mysteries that include events of great historical proportions and with repercussions throughout the world.

The author is characterized throughout the work by being extremely descriptive of each scene, place and moment, helping the reader to immerse themselves in the story in a much deeper way. To this we must add action scenes that fit perfectly with the suspense that dominates the constant atmosphere of The Rebirth. The fact of not knowing what can happen next is on every page and helps to keep the reader trapped. The characters are very well developed since each one has their own personality, history and problems that separate them from the rest.

The work has adult content that, far from seeking to be striking, fits perfectly with the work and the characters, allowing everything to flow better. The twists in the story are as surprising as they are interesting, making The Rebirth a must-read for anyone who enjoys mystery and suspense.

About The Author Of The Rebirth: A Dark Noir Thriller

V.P. Evans is the pen name of an average (and perhaps boring) guy who seems desperate to disappear into lands far away. You would probably find him lost in a secluded village in Estonia, wandering among the wild islands of the Azores, or backpacking across vague paths in Asia. And sometimes, as the fading lights and the thick darkness of this mysterious cosmos unfold before him, he has an idea and writes it down.
