At the request of the Mayor, Detective Skye Noir finds herself in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in the year 2041. A string of brutal murders has left the authorities desperate, and they are left with no choice but to hide it from the public.
Detective Skye realises that this might not be like the average cases she has come across, but she’s late.
A perfect blend of mystery, thriller, and supernatural horror, Crimson Silhouettes will pull you into a future where the past refuses to die, and the hunt is only just beginning.
Spoiler-Free Plot:
Detective Skye Noir doesn’t get scared easily. She’s worked homicide for years, and seen what people are capable of at their worst. There’s always a logical explanation. But the second she steps off the plane in San Juan, something feels wrong.
She’s never been requested by the mayor to come help them with a case, so she can’t help but feel disappointed in them. But soon, she finds out why they couldn’t.
A mysterious killer has brutally murdered eight people. The reports are vague, and so are the crime scenes. The victims aren’t just mauled; their wounds are precise. Too accurate for an animal, too unnatural for any human she’s ever come across. Her seniors avoid her questions leading to more dead ends. Skye goes out of her way and finds out every victim herself, any witness that might help. People tell her about shadowy figures moving through the streets, glowing eyes in the dark, and strange howls that don’t belong to any human. Some officers even go as far as hinting at old legends.
Werewolves.
But Skye doesn’t do legends. She believes in evidence, in killers with motives, and in trials that lead somewhere. Still, as the bodies pile up and the pieces refuse to fit, she starts to wonder if there’s something she’s missing. Something that doesn’t belong in the world she knows.
Because if the legends are real, then Skye isn’t just hunting a killer. She’s being hunted by a werewolf. And if she isn’t careful, she might not make it out alive.
My Take on Crimson Silhouettes:
This book had me hooked from the very first page. “Crimson Silhouettes” is the kind of thriller that doesn’t give you a second to breathe. The pacing is fast, the stakes are high, and from the moment Detective Skye Noir lands in San Juan, you can feel the weight of something off in the air.
The author does a fantastic job of blending mystery, thriller, and supernatural horror. The atmosphere is one of the book’s strongest points. San Juan, in 2041, feels alive; futuristic in some ways, but still drenched in history and secrets. The descriptions are just enough to set the mood without slowing things down, which I loved.
What I liked the most about Skye is her stubborn, sharp, and relentless behaviour, exactly the kind of detective you want in a story like this. Her scepticism feels real, and watching her struggle with what she thinks is real versus what’s actually happening is part of what makes her so compelling.
That said, I did wish we got a little more of her personal side. She’s a great lead, but at times, I wanted to connect with her on a deeper level beyond just the case.
If you love thrillers with a supernatural edge, Crimson Silhouettes is a must read. It’s fast, eerie, and keeps you questioning everything until the very last page.
