Fourth Wing TV Series: Latest News, Cast and Release Updates

Originally published October 31, 2023. Updated October 7, 2026.

The dragons of Fourth Wing are heading to television. Prime Video has ordered an adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’s fantasy novels, moving the project beyond the rights announcement covered in our original 2023 report.

What has been confirmed?

Amazon confirmed the series order at its 2026 Upfront presentation. The adaptation comes from Amazon MGM Studios, with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society among the production companies involved.

Who is behind the Fourth Wing TV series?

According to Amazon’s official series guide, Meredith Averill is the showrunner and an executive producer. Lisa Joy is set to direct the pilot, and Rebecca Yarros is also an executive producer.

Is there a release date or confirmed cast?

As of October 7, 2026, Amazon’s official guide has not announced a premiere date or cast. A series order does not establish when filming will finish or when viewers will be able to watch, so release-date predictions should be treated as speculation.

What is Fourth Wing about?

The story follows twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail into Basgiath War College, where candidates compete to become dragon riders. Violet had imagined a quieter future among books, but her mother sends her into a world of brutal training, dangerous rivals, and dragons that choose their own riders.

It is that combination of survival, romance, and dragon-filled fantasy that makes the adaptation so intriguing. For readers, the appeal lies as much in Violet finding her own way through the college as in its battles and secrets. How those elements translate to the screen remains something to discover when the show arrives.

Will every Empyrean book get a separate TV series?

There is no confirmed book-by-book television plan in the official announcement. Our original report suggested that each novel would receive a separate TV series; that claim was unsupported and has been removed. Future seasons and the amount of material adapted will depend on announcements from the production team.
