The story is centered around Brie Weldon, a nurse who recently graduated and is moving to Virginia to start a new job at an illustrious hospital with her best friend Sherry. We learn very early on that Brie has overcome a lot of trauma in her life related to the sudden death of her mother.
She and her mother were in a tragic car accident and Brie believed a Guardian Angel saved her. She spent the five years following her death slowly trudging her way through nursing school and caring for her father. Everyone she told about the Guardian Angel believed it was a hallucination. She was convinced that she made it up, even though the angel gave her a necklace and made her promise not to take off.
As she is driving to Virginia to start her new life, the necklace begins to burn her. She took it off and quickly realized everything she thought she saw during the accident was real. She meets the dreamy Guardian Angel Cameron for the second time and he opens her eyes to the supernatural phenomena that has been plaguing her for years.
When she begins her new job, Brie meets plenty of new friends alongside a doctor with very questionable motives. She also discovers a strange, unexplainable medical phenomenon that is growing on the East Coast that she believes could be related to what she has gone through.

My Thoughts on Ruled By Fate
I was hooked on this book since the first page and I didn’t want to put it down. It is short enough to settle in with a cup of coffee and a blanket to read in one sitting. Thankfully, it is the first book of a series so I will be able to dive back into the next books!
The characters were extremely likable and they all felt so real. Often times in fantasy books side characters can be over-dramatic caricatures of people, but in this story, they were real people going through extraordinary circumstances.
Cameron is a 5,000-year-old celestial who feels threatened by Siri enough to drown an iPhone in pancake batter, but that is just his charm. I found his character extremely endearing and he is perfect love interest material. He is sweet, gentle, and fiercely protective of Brie while also being completely clueless about how things on Earth work.
The main character, Brie, has been through a lot in her day but constantly strives to care for the people around her. She was easy to like and I found myself really rooting for her by the end of the story. There isn’t closure in this book about what exactly is happening with her, but it is something I am looking forward to learning more about in the series.
I thought the plotline with the mysterious deaths at the hospital was very compelling and I enjoyed seeing how that played out. That led to another element of the story I am eager to see develop more in the next book.
The romance in the story is also very sweet. Brie and Cameron are lovely together but their romance is forbidden. It is a perfect slow-burn, forbidden love romance story.
The story has a few action scenes scattered throughout. I wish they were a little longer or more detailed than they are, but otherwise, I have no other issues with the story!
I thoroughly enjoyed Ruled by Fate and I can’t wait to read the next book!
