“Nerdection Excellent Read”
The Phoenix Chronicles book one, The Hounds written by Joseph G. Topp is a story of life, freedom, hope, and desires. This book blends fantasy, thrill, hope and mysteries.
The story of Tỳnarr who was meant to live freely but fate had different plans—surviving his life as a slave, suffering hardships as he believed that he would gain the freedom, the freedom to live with his family and friends.
Spoiler-Free Plot
Týnarr once lived his life freely until the state of Malteor decided his fate to be that of a slave. He had dreams to pursue but was bound and beaten by the cruel master Dagfinnr, the owner of a colony. He and his friend, Yulrich were being punished by their owner Dagfinnr, who owned a large number of slaves, men and women to work under harsh conditions.
Týnarr and Yulrich were best friends who met during the days of slavery. They dreamed of freedom together. Despite this, they had no means of reaching their destination as the Econics, who were both giant and physically strong, had spies scattered everywhere. Any effort to escape would undoubtedly result in being apprehended.
According to Dagfinnr, men and women were ordered strictly not to interact with each other, and to live their life all alone. But somehow, Yulrich and Seraa came in contact right after they planned a party. The time passed as before but Yulrich and Seraa started to spend more time with each other.
When Týnarr discovered that Yulrich and Seraa had done something forbidden, which carried the risk of eternal consequences, Týnarr decided to help them, to make a way for Yulrich and Seraa to run away, to run for their lives and to live a happy life with their child-to-be.
To their dismay,Yulrich and Seraa were caught, and they received the harshest punishment imaginable, fueling Týnarr’s anger and desire for revenge on behalf of his friend. He ran away from slavery, and finally, Týnarr was free to live.
Týnarr got the vision, the visions from the All-Father God, giving him a way out through problems, warning him from dangers and indicating his role, the role that could give him freedom, but with every freedom comes a necessary sacrifice.
My Take On The Phoenix Chronicles: The Hound
The Hound, which is the initial installment of The Phoenix Chronicles written by Joseph G. Topp, is a captivating fantasy book that beautifully explores the themes of life, freedom, family, and friendship.
Týnarr’s character was captivating because of his sharp intellect and problem-solving abilities, as well as his relentless pursuit of freedom during his time as a slave. The visions he experienced were nothing short of breathtaking, drawing the reader into an incredibly immersive world. Each vision was so detailed and rich that it felt like stepping into another world, where every sound and sensation was alive.
“You are not the beginning; you are the end.”
Another thing I loved was how The All-Father God, Rono and the speaker are in rivalry and Týnarr is supposed to save the world without any true friend. The betrayal from friends, the death of loved ones, and his uncontrolled emotions made him all alone once more. His monumental struggles were bound to bring about something remarkable.
“I cannot die, my spirit will live FOREVER!”
The haunting voices of the Speaker tormented him relentlessly, causing him to become mentally drained until his final moments. I am still eager to know how he will defeat The Speaker.
I enjoyed the first instalment of The Phoenix Chronicles and I am expecting the second book to be even better. The book’s strength lies in its gripping plot twists, impactful emotional moments, and well-managed pacing. I’m eagerly looking forward to discovering more in the next book of this enthralling series.
