Fans of Marissa Meyer’s beloved The Lunar Chronicles series have received one of the biggest adaptation updates of the year. Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation have officially confirmed that an animated feature adaptation of the bestselling young adult sci-fi fantasy series is moving forward, with a theatrical release date scheduled for November 3, 2028.
The announcement marks a major milestone for a project that has been in development for several years and has become one of the most anticipated book-to-screen adaptations among YA readers.
What We Know About the Adaptation
According to Warner Bros. and Locksmith Animation, the film will bring Meyer’s futuristic fairy-tale universe to the big screen for the first time. The adaptation is being directed by Noëlle Raffaele, while Christina Steinberg, known for her work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is attached as producer.
The creative team also includes screenwriter Lindsey Ferrentino alongside writing partners Kalen Egan and Travis Sentell. Visual development will involve acclaimed designer Es Devlin, while visual effects giant Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) has joined the project.
While casting details have not yet been announced, Meyer recently indicated that the production is expected to move into the casting phase in the near future.

First published in 2012, The Lunar Chronicles became one of the most successful YA fantasy series of the last decade. The books reimagine classic fairy tales—including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White—within a futuristic science-fiction setting featuring cyborgs, political intrigue, and an ongoing conflict between Earth and the Lunar colony.
