“Nerdection Excellent Read”
Science fiction plot set in near future, Dystopian world focusing on consequences of climate change and evaluation of technology in The Quantum Realm Trilogy.
Spoiler-free Summary:
The Quantum Realm Trilogy by Robert P. Edwards is a multi-layered science fiction series set in a near future where the world is highly affected by climate change, war and advanced technology such as Quantum computers and artificial intelligence. The trilogy has unforgettable characters and complex science.
This Trilogy contains all three books of the Quantum Realm series combined in one book, which are:
Book 1: Unnatural Selection
In the first book, the world has been transformed by climate devastation, where the rich have access to quantum technology and life-extending enhancements while the middle class struggles to survive. The author introduces a young woman, Sophie, whose mother died under mysterious circumstances. Sophie and her father begin to hunt for answers about the unnatural death of Sophie’s mother. Along the way, they meet Kazumi, heir to the Mashimoto quantum empire, and Mackenzie, daughter of a tech mogul.
As they work together to find the truth, they go through political corruption, grief, and scientific breakthroughs. As the secrets start to unravel, they discover a conspiracy in the very technology that promises to save humanity. This first book sets the stage for everything that happens next.
Book 2: Inheritance
The second book takes place a decade later. The world is looking worse than before. Wars are happening everywhere, and strange enhanced soldiers are fighting on all sides. Sophie starts to have strange, dream-like visions connecting her mind to something called the quantum realm. Meanwhile, Kazumi becomes a powerful leader in China, and Mackenzie and her partner plan to move to the moon. This book focuses on the problems caused by war, science, technology, and the fear of losing Earth.
Book 3: Serendipity
The last book of this trilogy is set five years after the Quanta War. Earth is now controlled by machines called Quanta. Many people have moved to the moon to find peace of mind and hope for a new life, but they face a series of problems there as well. Life is not easy on the moon, people are getting sick from strange diseases and supplies are running low.
Meanwhile, Sophie discovers a hidden truth from the Quantum Realm. What she finds could save humanity, but only if people are willing to listen to her. This book is more about forgiveness, hope, and the choices we make for the future.
My take on The Quantum Realm Trilogy:
Reading The Quantum Realm Trilogy feels like watching the future unfold before my eyes, both terrifying and inspiring.
Sophie is a strong main character. She is not a superhero, but a regular girl who was once a curious daughter and is now a great leader. Watching her grow is one of the best parts of the trilogy.
Kazumi and Mackenzie provide contrasting characters. Kazumi is cold and business- minded, while Mackenzie is bold and emotional. The Quants, intelligent machines, are very thoughtful, making us think about what it means to be alive.
The science in the story is a bit difficult, but Edwards writes it in a way that is easy to understand most of the time. There are moments of horror, hope, and humour. The author mixes these emotions really well.
The author does a great job blending the genres of science fiction, dystopian thriller with the themes of environmental changes, survival and technology. The pacing of the book is well suited for the genre.
That said, the trilogy can be heavy. Some characters, especially in the second book, take on too many roles at once (spy, leader, survivor), which might seem unbelievable.
At times, this makes their actions feel less realistic and can pull readers out of the story. However, the emotional weight of their journeys still adds depth to the books.
Overall, it’s a great book that combines thrilling science fiction with themes about our future. The story challenges readers to reflect on technology, humanity, and the choices we make.
