The Mightiest family has Returned.
After the events of “The Mighty Chronicles: The Rise Of Heroes,” Hudson, Ethan, Charles, and their mentor Avalor return to defend Twilight City as superheroes. Hudson now must take on the task of not just the leader of the team but also of the family. When a mysterious cult comes to town, the brothers must mature even more and prevent the cult from destroying the city.
My take on The Mighty Chronicles: Reckless Roads
The Mighty Chronicles Reckless Roads is the continuation of Rise of the Heroes, which was the first chapter of this saga written by Elias R. Garcia and picks up the baton of what was this first superhero experience of the Jones brothers, Hudson, Ethan, and Charles and their particular mentor, Avalor. The siblings find themselves once again on an adventure to rescue their parents.
Perhaps from a literary perspective, the absence of their parents helps focus the story on the siblings and Avalor, who are the protagonists of The Mighty Chronicles—at least, they have been in these two books. However, from a story perspective, it doesn’t provide much variety, and that’s something that’s obvious from the outset. However, the fact that the siblings receive so much attention in the story from the beginning serves to further develop each of their personalities, highlighting certain differences between them.
It’s also true that classic superhero stories could have a certain repetitive element that pushed superheroes to extreme situations where they could showcase their most heroic qualities. This shows that Elias R. Garcia is a true fan of those classic superhero stories. While the story has classic elements, there are elements that stray slightly from those norms, such as the character of Avalor and his problems with alcohol, for example. His a character unlike what we usually find in these types of stories, but he brings a great deal of originality and even a certain humanity to a world full of superpowers and fictional elements.
The book maintains a very similar structure and style to the first. It’s divided into several chapters (35 specifically), which makes it much easier to read, something already achieved by the way it’s written. As in Rise of Heroes, there’s little dialogue, and there’s a greater focus on describing events and scenes. However, there’s a noticeable improvement in the author’s writing and in the way the story develops compared to the previous book.
Although they are superheroes, they are also young people, and this is evident in several ways, such as the way they handle certain situations, their impatience at times, and even their way of speaking. This lends a realism that distances them from the stereotype of the perfect, ideal superhero.
Something we already mentioned in Rise of Heroes was that it felt more like a comic than a book, since it was very easy to imagine those words translated into panels and structured like a comic, and that’s something we continue to maintain in Reckless Roads. It’s something that’s already becoming a hallmark of The Mighty Chronicles series, and we hope it continues because it’s very interesting and fits very well with this type of story.
In closing, it’s a book that provides a very good continuation of the first and is already beginning to shape a saga that is entertaining and that, as far as I understand, will have about 10 more books, so we’ll have The Mighty Chronicles for a good while. I must say that if I had to give it a score out of 100, it would be around 70. An excellent read and worthy continuation to the first book.
About The Author Of The Mighty Chronicles: Reckless Roads
Elias Ricardo Garcia is a 21-year-old autistic man born and raised in New Jersey. Throughout his life, he has been passionate about writing and storytelling. Despite often feeling like an outcast due to his special needs, writing has always been a consistent part of his life. From filling multiple notebooks with stories to exploring his fascination with superheroes and other outcasts, Elias found comfort and relatability in characters who didn’t quite fit in.
As a child, Elias dreamed of creating his own superhero, though many of his early projects didn’t feel quite right. At the age of 18, he began writing a pilot script for a show, which later evolved into his book, The Mighty Chronicles: Rise of Heroes. The book took him two years to complete and marks the beginning of a promising series.
Through his work, Elias hopes to inspire others to pursue their passions, no matter their circumstances. He believes it is never too late to follow one’s dreams and encourages others to silence self-doubt and persevere.
This is only the beginning of his creative journey, with many more stories to come.
