The Child by Marcel Marquiè is a Crime novel published in 2025. “The Child” is the part two of the series written by Marquiè, “The Sisters” being the Part one. Toni Bonnet is a Parisian Private Investigator with a keen mind and a sharp instinct for uncovering the truth. When Toni becomes entangled in a mysterious case, he finds himself in a web of secrets, lies, and revenge. Will he accomplish his mission despite the obstacles?

Antoine “Toni” Bonnet is a post war Parisian Private Investigator with a keen interest for cases that seem almost impossible to solve. The characters he encountered were like puzzle pieces, each with their own hidden motivations and agendas.
There was Sandrine, whose child had vanished into thin air. Earlier on, the child who was fathered by a German Officer was said to have been kidnapped by Sandrine’s husband. Later on, he was found by his foster parents who no one knew anything about. When the child was taken from Sandrine, she was deep in depression and trying to recover from a public humiliation. Then, there was Claudine, Sandrine’s sister and a battle-hardened veteran of the Resistance. Toni sensed a deep loyalty in her, a commitment to protecting those she loved. And, there was Günter, the brooding stranger who seemed to hold a piece of Sandrine’s past.
Toni finds himself trapped in a web of lies and deceit as he digs deeper into the mystery. With each new discovery, he felt like he was sinking deeper into a complex puzzle with no clear solution.
Then Toni begins to work on the case of the missing child. The case becomes more complex with each step. Sandrine, the child’s mother, is overwhelmed with concern. Her sister Claudine reaches out to Toni with a plea for help.
To his dismay, as Toni pursues the case, he discovers countless secrets, lies and deceit. In the course of his adventure, he travels the French countryside. He also encounters some of the most remarkable people, and some shadowy characters connected to Sandrine.
Each step Toni took led to more questions and pieces of the puzzle left unsolved. He encounters falsehoods and mysteries, which makes his investigation even harder.
My take on Parisian Detective Tales Part Two: The Child
“The Child” is a gripping and emotional rollercoaster, full of surprises and unexpected turns. It is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a good mystery. It will leave readers guessing until the very end, when the truth is finally revealed in an unforgettable climax.
Marquiè masterfully weaves together a complex web of relationships, secrets, and revenge. As the narrative unfolds, the author skillfully reveals the dark history of the sisters (Sandrine and Claudine), their quest for revenge against their father’s murderers, and the devastating consequences of their actions.
One of the features of this book that I love the most is its atmospheric and immersive writing style that the author adopted. The author’s vivid descriptions of the French countryside and the characters’ emotional states transport the reader to the world of the story.
The characters in the book bring their own unique perspective and motivations to the story. Toni, the private investigator, is a compelling protagonist with an empathetic nature. His involvement in the case of the missing child is driven by a desire to uncover the truth. Also, his growing emotional investment in the sisters’ story adds depth to the narrative.
Sandrine, on the other hand, is a tragic figure whose story is both heartbreaking and infuriating. Her experiences have left her damaged and vulnerable. Her actions are driven by a desire for revenge and a need to reclaim her past. Claudine, Sandrine’s sister, is a stronger and more determined character who is fiercely protective of her sister.
