Writing events
: National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. Now, each year on November 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with a first draft. They enter the month as elementary school teachers, mechanics, or stay-at-home parents. They leave novelists. NaNoWriMo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides the structure, community, and encouragement to help people use their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds—on and off the page.
Writing communities
: DIY MFA is a website and community platform aimed at writers who want to get the benefits of a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing without actually enrolling in a formal program. The concept behind DIY MFA is to provide resources, tools, and a supportive community to help writers learn and grow in their craft, just as they would in an MFA program, but on their own terms and schedule. The site offers articles, courses, workshops, and a podcast, all designed to help writers with various aspects of writing, including craft, reading like a writer, and building a writing community. It’s a useful resource for writers looking for structured guidance and peer support without the financial and time commitments associated with traditional MFA programs.
